Seminar Announcement: Toward 6G and DNA Data Storage
The Faculty of Information Technology is pleased to announce an upcoming research seminar presented by Professor Sunghwan Kim from the Department of Artificial Intelligence and Information Technology, Sejong University, Seoul, Republic of Korea. The seminar offers an excellent opportunity for faculty members and students to explore emerging research directions in next-generation wireless communications and advanced data storage technologies.

Seminar Overview
During the seminar, Professor Sunghwan Kim will introduce two cutting-edge research topics that are expected to play a significant role in future information and communication technologies:
- Reconfigurable Intelligent Surfaces (RIS) for 6G: An emerging technology that transforms the wireless propagation environment into a programmable communication medium, improving signal coverage and energy efficiency through passive beamforming and intelligent phase-shift design.
- DNA Data Storage: A revolutionary data storage paradigm offering extremely high storage density and long-term durability. The seminar will discuss DNA synthesis, storage and sequencing processes, insertion/deletion/substitution errors, and information-theoretic challenges related to reliable DNA-based data storage.
In addition to the technical presentations, Professor Kim will introduce research opportunities at Sejong University, including graduate programs, scholarships, internships, and potential research collaborations between Korean and Vietnamese universities.
About the Speaker
Professor Sunghwan Kim is currently a Professor in the Department of Artificial Intelligence and Information Technology at Sejong University. He received his B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering from Seoul National University and has previously held positions at the Georgia Institute of Technology (USA), Samsung Electronics, the University of Ulsan, and Kyonggi University.
His research interests include 5G/6G communications, Reconfigurable Intelligent Surfaces (RIS), channel coding, DNA data storage, and IoT communications. Professor Kim has published more than 157 SCIE journal papers, has been recognized among Stanford University's World's Top 2% Scientists for five consecutive years (2021–2025), and is a Senior Member of IEEE.
